Dear Classmates,

This is to inform you that due to the approaching storm heading for the East coast, including South Carolina, the Richland County Recreation Commission has announced that “ALL” Parks will be closed for the weekend. Therefore, in accordance with the travel alert, we have cancelled our Class Gathering for this weekend.

If you are in contact with class members who do not have an email address, or computer access, please pass this notice along to them.

After we have had a chance to call our class together for a meeting, we will share any thoughts about how to move forward with a future celebration event.

All vendors have been alerted and no further expenditures will be expected.

If you have further questions, please call me at (720) 480-9251. My email address

John Thompson

CA Johnson Class Club President, “64”

Dear Classmates,

In our last class meeting we acknowledged the loss of two classmates, Pamela Weeks and David Felder, as well as several parents of class members.  They included: Mrs. Naomi Joanna Hall Dreher, the mother of Wilber Anne Wells; Mrs. Mary Lucille Stukes, the mother of Narda Dixon, Mrs. Dorothy Bouknight, mother of Barbara Bouknight and Mrs. Donella Roberta Brown Wilson, mother of John Wilson.  It has also been reported that Curtis March lost his mother and the funeral is scheduled for St. Luke Episcopal Church on Saturday.

Our prayers went out for John Wesley Hankins, whose wife, Mary is now in hospice. Effie Javis and Benjamin Spry are confined to nursing homes and Emma Hingelton is confined to a wheelchair in her home.

As we prepare to gather in September, we are eager to share with you all the work that is being done by the committees to ensure a great celebration for all of us.  The Planning Committee has completed its work and reported that our 54th Class Reunion will take place, September 14-16, 2018, beginning on Friday, 6-10 pm at the North Springs Park Community Center, located in northeast corridor at 1320 Clemson Road, Columbia, SC 29229.  We are scheduled to “Meet and Greet” with entertainment from Jessie Sumter, the James Brown impersonator.

On Saturday, 3-8 pm our celebration will continue at the Upper Richland Community Center, located at 280 Camp Ground Road, Columbia, SC 29203 with entertainment, golfing & fishing.  Our Class Memorial is also being planned for Saturday in the Banquet Hall.

On Sunday, at 11:00 am, we will worship at the Brookland Baptist Church, where they have reserved seating for the class.  We will have lunch in the church’s Banquet Hall following worship.  The church is located at 1066 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169.

When you arrive on Friday, you will stop at the Registration Desk and pick up your name tag.  Please take time to update your profile with any changes in address, phone number, email address or name, marital status, new grands or great grands, etc.  We will not continue to send letters out to those addresses that are returned.

No hotels have been reserved; therefore, accommodations will be made by each individual. The registration for the C.A. Johnson Class Club of “64” Reunion is $30.00.

If you have not done so, please put the dates for our reunion on your calendar.  The reunion fee is $30.00 per person.  Please send in your check or money order of $30.00 so that it can reach our treasurer by the 18th of May.  As we reported earlier, you must make your own hotel reservation.

Class dues are $25.00 and the cost of the Class Reunion is $30.00.  All checks should be mailed to CA Johnson Class 64, P.O. Box 675 - Columbia, SC 29202.  Please remember that checks are to be made out to C.A. Johnson Class Club of 64.  Please DO NOT make any checks out to me (IN MY NAME).

All of our bills have been paid and the annual renewal fee for our post office box has been paid. In our meeting we started to digitally recording our meeting.  We have asked Henry Hipps to research the possibility of storing our digitized minutes on our website.  If this is possible, it will allow all class members to access the minutes with a call in “CODE” to the website. This would be available 24 hours per day, to listen to at your convenience.

The class voted that all future bills for the website will be mailed directly to the treasurer for immediate payment.  We encourage conversations with and among classmates on the website.  If you have not done so, please go to our website and register as a new member with an email address and a password of your own choosing.  Please provide us with as much information as you are willing to share with your class, including pictures.  Henry Hipps is the administrator for the website.  If you have questions or need help, please email Henry at (

The Bereavement Committee recommended a change to the Bylaws to allow up to $75.00 to be spent for flowers.  The increase was necessary because of price increases over the years.

If you have never been to one of your class reunions, you will have a lot to catch up on.  But don’t wait, visit the website now and let the fun begin! You will learn new and exciting things about your classmates.  Share with us.  Let us know what you have been doing.

Remember! All roads lead to Columbia.  Join us for our class reunion.  See you in September.

Most Sincerely,

John Thompson

CA Johnson Class Club President
